Still waiting for that second Avalanches release, but a 10th anniversary reissue of Since I Left You is very welcome, especially if the remix disc is all of this calibre.

Radiohead – Reckoner (Diplo Toy Car Wreck Remix

Radiohead have announced a remix series of their newest album, The King Of Limbs, beginning with remixes by Caribou and Jacques Greene. This is obviously pretty awesome. It’s also given me pause as I sat and thought about how different things used to be; way back in the day, there was a lot of talk about Massive Attack producing a complete rework of OK Computer. Can you even imagine that? It’s probably for the best that they didn’t, as a year later they unleashed Mezzanine and thus ruined their entire career by exhausting all of their best ideas.

What did we get instead? A couple of Climbing Up The Walls remixes by also-rans Zero7 and the now defunct Fila Brazillia. Miserable scraps.

Things really do change, though. In 2003 Four Tet was commissioned along with Christian Vogel for Hail To The Thief remixes, and by 2008 artists as diverse as Son Lux, Julianna Barwick, Flying Lotus and Diplo were queuing up to join the fun of the Nude and Reckoner remix contests online.

Could I have imagined fourteen years ago that Thom Yorke would be collaborating with luminaries such as FlyLo and Burial a decade hence? Well, obviously not as those artists weren’t even around then, but still. I think Radiohead’s reach is a great signpost for the massive genre-bleedthrough we see daily and take for granted in 2011. Y’know, in case you ever sort of think everything is rubbish, just cast your mind back and think, “Thank fuck we don’t ever hear any Zero7 remixes any more”.

Lovable skwee-scamp Boss Kite done some remixes of R’n’B classics and that one by Willow Smith. They’re wicked. They’re free. Go click now.

For me, Keep Shelly In Athens are a quintessential act for 2011, which no doubt means they’ll be part of the BBC’s Sound Of 2012 poll in eight months time.

In any case, their remixes are as arresting as their own tracks, as evidenced by this blissful reworking of D/R/U/G/S’ Love Lust. It’s also definitely worth putting aside time for their remix playlist.

 – The Kills - Satellite (The Bug Remix)

Satellite by The Kills impressed me from the first time I heard it, but The Bug’s remix haunts me anew. Kevin Martin can remix anything and everything as far as I’m concerned.

Gold Panda! New EP, You, out in May. Not actually new news, but my blogging is erratic and I often forget things I want to post.
Go listen, it’s pretty great.
And why not download Gold Panda’s remix of the brilliant Telepathe single Chrome’s On It while you’re here?

The Shrew Would Have Coushioned The Blow

Finally available to buy on wax, the new Joy Orbison tune is a delirious, swoonful splice of glitched-out soul and bass. Remarkably, the New Haus So Glo remix by Actress is even more impressive, jettisoning the bass and sending The Shrew into deep space with only the sparsest beat and tinny SFX for company.

Go stream the EP at Simple Records. Do it now.
